A walk in the superb Molignée valley was an opportunity for me to test the 11.0 version of Lightroom in post processing. So, for the amateurs, let's say right away that this is a major version because it introduces the notion of masks as well as tools based on artificial intelligence allowing, among other things, to automatically select the sky. And frankly it works perfectly and is a huge time saver and precision saver for anyone dealing with the drama of "white skies" without texture. In a few clicks, you darken the sky, give it texture, contrast and color. Magical!

One of the new tools also makes it possible to automatically select a subject in the photo (a person, an animal, a building that stands out from its context). Here too the result is stunning. No more backlights that darken your subject too much, they can be corrected without affecting the settings of the rest of the photo

The right perspective!!

The photo of a bridge is not particularly a photo that will attract attention. But putting yourself in the right perspective, you suggest that the vehicles have to climb a daunting grade. And when you cross that bridge, it almost feels like you're in the web of a gigantic spider.

It's all about choosing the right perspective!!

Macro photography or close-up?

Hi there. Today, I offer you a close-up of the visitor who came to greet me every morning for nearly a month at the start of summer. A depressed dragonfly (Libellula depressa) male. Be careful, Mr. was still about 8 cm!! ... and obviously liked to play with dolls!

Photos of strangers on the street.

The photo of strangers in the street constitutes a psychological milestone for the photographer. Here are a few tips.

Aujourd'hui , je vais vous raconter comment j'ai osé commencer à prendre des photos d'inconnus dans la rue.

C'est vrai qu'il faut franchir un certain pas... psychologiquement en tout cas. De nos jours, on parle pas mal de droit à l'image et encore plus de l'usage que certains pourraient faire d'une photo. La crainte d'une réaction démesurée n'est peut-être pas tout à fait irréaliste!

Pour ma part, quand je fais une photo d'une personne dans la rue, je le fais franchement, sans m'en cacher. C'est d'autant plus facile si je suis éloigné de cette personne et que je ne la perturbe pas. Si par hasard elle se rend compte de ce que je fais, je vais immédiatement lui montrer la photo prise et lui demande si cela ne la dérange pas. J'explique pourquoi j'ai pris la photo et ce que j'en fais. Eh bien, vous savez quoi; il ne m'est jamais arrivé que l'on me demande d'effacer ma photo.

J'ai construit ma propre éthique à ce propos. Si je suis loin de chez moi, à l'étranger... ce sont donc de parfaits inconnus que je photographie dont je ne connais forcément ni l'identité, ni la vie. Cet anonyma me rend plus légitime dans ma démarche. Bien sûr en cas de réaction, l'important est de proposer directement d'effacer la photo si il ou elle le souhaite.

Quand j'ai pris cette vieille dame sur un banc dans un parc, c'était conforté par cette éthique.

Mon conseil du jour: Osez, mais restez prudent et respectueux !

Determine ... or not, what catches the eye of those who look at your photos.

Sometimes the viewers of your photos see something you didn't even think of when composing your photo!

Today I would like to explain to you that it is not always you (the photographer) who will see what ultimately is the message behind a photo.

Let me explain with this little example. While strolling in the streets of a small village in the Azores, at the end of the day, I come across these two gentlemen who are chatting while watching rare vehicles pass by. Their complicity in the gaze towards what we cannot see interests me... and click!

But, back home, this photo seems dull and uninteresting. So I forget it!

However, my partner, when she saw the photo, immediately detected something in it that hadn't struck me. And since then, this photo has been shown many times and has garnered quite a bit of success; always for the same reason which had escaped me!

(re)Framing in post processing

You can completely change the message of a photo by severely cropping the shot during post processing.

La plupart des photos sont "créées" dès la prise de vue. Le post traitement ne servant en général qu'à corriger certaines imperfections. C'est à ce moment que le photographe voit quelque chose qui l'intéresse et qu'il veut fixer.

Cependant, de certaines prises de vue tout à fait banales, le photographe peut parfois aussi repenser complètement la composition, en recadrant drastiquement une partie de la prise de vue ou en changeant significativement l'éclairage global ou partiel. C'est plus rare, mais c'est un exercice que je fais souvent avec des prises de vues imparfaites voire carrément ratées. Petit exemple avec cette prise de vue banale d'une réunion de famille et la photo que j'en ai extraite. Premier essai: le recadrage sur le regard unique de ce petit garçon qui était passé inaperçu. Second essai, je passe au N&B, j'estompe l'arrière-plan et je recadre encore un peu. Le résultat me plait beaucoup... et à vous?

Mon conseil du jour: N'effacez pas trop vite vos photos. Elles peuvent avoir une seconde vie.
